The process …
It all begins with a custom-made canvas to suite the client’s specifications and needs before the numerous preparation stages begin. Once a solid foundation has been established, the magic begins … scraps of old magazines slowly become a unique work of art. Finally, the collage is sealed with layers of polyurethane, creating a matte or glossy finish, and providing an extra barrier of protection.
Words have power …
Words, phrases, positive affirmations, names, dates … it is all integrated into the layers upon layers of magazine pieces. Whether they are prominent and bold, or subtle and hidden, the words add another dimension of meaning to the art and even personalize a collage commissioned for a loved one.
Zero paint …
NO! … it’s not a painting! In fact, the only paint on there is my signature. Granted, it’s difficult to find an endless supply of sizable pieces of skin tone in magazines, but that is exactly what I source and collect to build up the multiple layers of flesh, varying in shade, saturation and hue.
